Ingredients:
- 2 cups navy beans
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 pound salt pork, cut into small cubes
Instructions:
Rinse and soak the navy beans overnight in cold water
Preheat oven to 325F 165C
In a mixing bowl, combine molasses, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, dry mustard, and ketchup to make the sauce
Drain and rinse the soaked beans
Place them in a large baking dish or bean pot
Add the chopped onion and salt pork to the beans
Pour the sauce over the beans, ensuring they are well coated
Cover the dish with a lid or aluminum foil
Bake in the preheated oven for 4-5 hours, stirring occasionally
Remove the cover during the last hour of baking to allow the top to brown
Beans are done when they are tender and the sauce has thickened
